The term ‘brick’ refers to small pieces of building material, usually made from fired clay that heats up to 2,000° F and is secured with mortar. Bricks are a bonding agent of cement, sand, and water- and the fact that they are fire-resistant mean that they are absolutely perfect for building houses and other structures.
Natural clay minerals, including kaolin and shale, make up the main body of brick; while little amounts of barium, manganese, and other products are blended with the clay to produce different shades. Barium carbonate is used to improve brick’s chemical resistance to the elements.
A brick is usually four inches wide and twice as long, because each brick is small it is an ideal material for structures in confined spaces, and they can also be used for curved designs. A huge positive about brick is they have minimal upkeep and that brick buildings generally last an incredibly long time. By going through a chemical-transforming process in the kiln, the minerals in the clay fuse together and become a material that looks great!
